Drunk in Charge Of Morse and Cart
MAGISTRATE IMPOSES PINE. Pleading guilty to a charge of being drunk whilst in charge of a horse and lorry, Jack Presling, a Palmerston North carrier, aged 49 years, was fined £l, in default .14 days' imprisonment, when he appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Palmerston North Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. Senior-Sergeant Whitehouse, for the police, stated that accused had fallen off his cart when driving it in the Square on August 10. IDLE AND DISORDERLY. "Ho came into the watchhousc asking for charity and looking in a deplorable condition, while, on his own statement he admitted not having done any work for twelve months,'' said SeniorSergeant Whitehouse, for the police, when relating the circumstances in connection with a charge against William Wylie, a labourer, aged 58 years, who pleaded guilty to the chargo of being art idle and disorderly person in that he had no lawful visiblo means of support. Nothing previously was known against him—ho just went “swagging” round tko country getting food where possible, added the Senior-Sergeant. Accused was convicted and sentenced to a month’s imprisonment.
