Miss Warren, of Ranfurly street, has returned from a visit to New Plymouth.
Mrs. and {he Misses Viles, of Colyton, have returned home after an enjoyable holiday spent in Auckland.
The engagement ig announced in an exchange of Betty, only daughter of Captain and Mrs. W. Mead, late of Auckland, to Colin, second son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Elliott, of Brooklyn, Wellington.
Miss Starkey, who has been travelling in the Old Country for tho past 14 months, returned to New Zealand by the Niagara on Monday last. On her way back to the Dominion she spent two months in Canada and she is now the guest of her sister, Mrs. W. B. Sprackett, of Stanley Avenue, Palmerston North.
At the close of the service at the Methodist Church, Colyton, on Sunday last, the Rev. Copeland, on behalf of the members, presented Miss Myra Smith with a gold-mounted fountain pen. Miss Smith, who, for the last three years has acted as organist, leaves shortly to join the nursing staff of the Wellington Karitane hospital.
Reference to tho passing of Airs. M. A. Eliott was made at yesterday afternoon’s meeting of tho council of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce, and a motion of sympathy with Air. Eliott in hi R sad loss was carried in silence, all present standing. Mr. Eliott, said the president (Mr. M. H. Oram) had been associated with public work in this city for many years and had been president of the Chamber for a long time. During the last fow years Airs. Eliott in her own quiet way, had identified herself with work in the town and anything that had for its object tho benefit of Palmerston North and its social welfare received her keenest interest.
