Capsized on Shingle
CAR CONTAINING AMATEUR BOXERS. FRANKLIN AND BENNIE INJURED Per Press Association. PAHIATUA, Aug. 10. A car overturned at Hamua yesterday afternoon, with amateur boxers returning from ilin'gton. Ihe injured were: — Joe Franklin, featherweight ch. pion of Poverty Bay —left leg broken. Fred Bonnie” lightweight champion of Hawke's Bay—severe cut on the knee. Both are in hospital. The other occupants, who escaped injury, were: Mrs J. R. Gregory, "f Whatatutu, Gisborne, owner of the car; Mrs J. Heeney, Gisborne; Messrs J. Heeney, Reg. Gregory, and Franklin (driver). The car was forced on to the shingle in endeavouring to avoid a collision with another car.
