Annual Report of the Northern B.T. and C. Club

Tlio annual report of the Northern Bowling, 'l’onnis and Croquet Club, to bo submitted by the president (Mr. R. H. Stallard) to the annual meeting, states that, owing to adverse weather conditions during the earlier portion of the season, play was restricted, but later members spent an enjoyable time, the greens closing on May 1. After an expression by the president of his appreciation of the great assistance .rendered by a number of members of the bowling section in helping with the the work during the season, the report continues: “Prior to the opening of tire season the pavilion, including the roof, and the garden seats received a thorough painting at a very small cost to the club owing to the work being done gratis by Messrs. R. McKee, A. E. Bennett, A. Parkcs, Ct. Ransom and H. 11. Stallard. The croquet section had erected, at its own expense, two very lino pergolas which add very much to the appearance of our already beautiful grounds, apart from being most useful and convenient to members of that sectiou. Since the closing of the season the croquet greens have bceu pipedrained, which will prove very beneficial to the players in the future. The bonding green has been forked over by members in order to let air into the ground. All the necessary re-fcurling was done by the caretaker with old turf, and the job was well done and should prove most satisfactory. The bowling green will be top-dressed shortly. The caretaker has also rc-turfed the worn ends of the tennis courts.” The report stales that during the season a new mower was purchased and members were gratified at tlio great improvement to the green, while thanks were extended to Mr. Bryan for negotiating the purchase. Unfortunately there was a small decrease in the membership of the bowling and tennis sections, but. the president expresses his confidence that there will bo an increase during the forthcoming season, especially if intending members are advised of the improvement to the greens and that the club is not overcrowded. “The ladies of the croquet section cannot be thanked enough for the able manner in which they have catered for the members in providing afternoon tea, Mrs. Holmes being in charge during the first half of the season and Mrs. Gillett in the latter half. The hearty thanks of the club arc extended to all members who assisted on the grounds, and particularly to the able greeu supervisor, Mr. R. McKee; to Mrs. Holmes and Mrs. Gillett for their work in charge of the tea arrangements; to the sectional secretaries; to the auditor (Mr. G. Bryan); and also to the general sec-

retary and. treasurer (Mr. S. A. Stannard), -whoso work is much appreciated. The caretaker (Mr. G. H. Lynch) has been kept well occupied all the year and has proved a most capable worker. ’ ’ The report refers to tlio keen interest taken in tlio successful raffle held during the past season, the prizes being donated by Messrs. R. McKee, A. P. Stuart, E. H. Stallard and Mrs. Gillette The finances of the club are in a sound position, the credit balance being £3O 5/7.
