Obtained Work, Not Money
CHARGE OF MISREPRESENTATION DISMISSED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 5. Mr. Woodward, S.M., gave judgment to-day in the case of Nathaniel Me Kay, charged with obtaining £l7 10s by obtaining work under the No. 5 scheme, by allegedly falsely representing ho had no money in tho bank. Mr. Woodward said there was no authority on tho subject, but, after communicating with- Mr. Salmon, S.M., regarding a similar case heard by him he was clearly of tho opinion that defendant, in doing what ho did, had not obtained the money by false pretences. What ho had obtained was work and for the money ho had received he had given tho equivalent in work. The charge must be dismissed. The Magistrate would not say that possibly some other charge would not lie against defendant.
