Council Amends Lang's Salary Cuts
highest paid OFPICERS to lose nearly a third. SYDNEY, Aug. 5. The Legislative Co-cil, by 28 votes to 20, amended the Public Service Salaries Bill by removing the clause limiting salaries to j maximum of £SOO a year, and substituting a gradual scale of reductions through the service. Mr Boyce, who moved the amendment, estimated the savings under the new scheme at £1,850,000. He said that it was the public servants' own scheme with modifications that was incorporated in the amendment. Under the amendment, the salary of every officer would be reduced as follows: Fifteen per cent. or. those between £IOO and £2OO. Seventeen and a-half per cent, on those between £2OO and £4OO. Twenty per cent, on those between £4OO and £6OO. Twenty-two and a-half per cent, on those betwen £6OO and £BOO, Twenty-fire per cent, on those between £BOO and £IOOO. Twenty-seven and a half per t on those between £IOOO and £ISOO. Thirty-two and a-half per cent, on salaries in excess of £ISOO.
