“BIG NEWS,” NEWSPAPER STOEH. HOOT GIBSON IN “THE MOUNTED STRANGER. ’ ’ SPECIAL MATINEE TOD AT. Speed, excitement, suspense and humour are the four prime characteristics of “Big News,” a new Pathe all-dia-logue film, and one of the big attractions on the double-feature programme commenwng at the special matinee today at 2.30 at the Majestic Theatre, Eeilding. “Big News” might well be described as one hectic day in a newspaper office. With a time lapse of only twelve hours, the story is crammed with more thrills than are the lot of many lifetimes. Nor are they hung on loosely, but developed as part of a logical plot which deals with the effort of a reporter on a big metropolitan daily. Robert Armstrong has the featured role of “Big News,” as Steve Banks, who has plenty of personal pecadillos ns well as a. keen nose for news. The combination of geniality with a light touch of cynicism which have helped Bob along the road to fame in former pictures, is said to have plenty of scope in “Big News.” He was a star reporter, discharged from his paper for drunkenness . . . And after the Argument with his editor, the old man was found murdered! Was “Steve” Banks guilty? Who cut the pipe of the portable gas-stove in the room? Where did Reno, the smooth bootlegger, come in? And did Mrs. Banks, beautiful reporter on a rival paper, mean to stick by her word to get, divorce from her husband? These are some of the high spots of “Big News.”

Hoot Gibson rides his old cayuse into some of the hcll-roarincst situations ever seen and heard on the screen in “The Mounted Stranger,” all-talking action picture, which is the socoud attraction offering. Riding, fighting, romance and humour feature “The Mounted Stranger” from the word “go.” Hoot returns to his old stamping ground, down along the border, where men ride hard and fight hard, and life holds a thrill a minute. Hoot plays the part of a young cowboy who sets out to avenge the death of his father, murdered by a gang of bad men. How lie accomplishes this, aided by a beautiful girl, makes one of the most interesting and exciting pictures. The box plans arc at Carthow’s, whilst telephone reservations may be made by theatre ’phone 167.
