FOOTBALL CLUB ■From Our Own Correspondent. The annual meeting of tlio Apiti Football Club was held in tlio Oddfellows’ hall on Wednesday evening, when Mr. A. R. McNao presided over a splendid attendance of members. At his request those present stood in silence as a mark of respect and sympathy with Mr. J. D. Ivilgour in his recent bereavement. Correspondence from the Oroua feubUnion stated that the season would open on May 2. The financial statement revealed a credit balance of £5 13/-, and the chairman, in moving its adoption, congratulated the club on a highly successful season. The seniors had won the Beard Cup and were run-ners-up in the union competition for the challenge shield. The juniors had won the championship and the Mitchell Shield, while the third grade team had also proved victorious. Officers for the ensuing season were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. W. McKenzie, senr.; president, Mr. A. R. McKae; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. B. Beard, 11. Cow-au, E. Cummerfield, C, Stevens, R. Clicyne, J. S. Mclntyre, 1.. Guy, H. L. Osborne, F. Swift, W. Osborne, W. H. Watson and C. Spence; secretary-treasurer, Mr. H. G. Mapson; assistant secretary, Mr. W. McKenzie, •junr.; delegates to sub-union, Messrs. W. Osborne and J. Kiigour; senioi coach, Mr. W. Osborne; junior manager, Mr. J. Kiigour; social committee, Messrs. E. Clifton, C, Osborne and T. Osborne.

It was decided that the management committee would consist of the captain and deputy captain of each team, the two delegates, the senior coach and the junior manager. .After a lengthy discussion on the method of the selection of teams for last season, the meeting decided to appoint a selection committee of three, consisting of Messrs. W. Osborne, J. Kiigour and A. It. McNae.

Subscriptions were again fixed at 5/- for seniors, 3/- for juniors and 2/6 for non-playing members. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr. H. G. Mapson for his conscientious work last year as secretary, and also to last season’s delegates and coaches. The names of Messrs. C. Spence and 11. Wildbore were forwarded to the union as referees. A further resolution was passed voting three guineas to assist the juniors in travelling expenses. The meeting also made recommendations as follows: That the sub-union penalise all teams forfeiting without notice to their opponents; that more representative fixtures be arranged for the juniors; and that in the selection of junior representative teams nominations be sent in by the respective managers and that a sole selector be appointed.

■ The first match of the season will be a game on Saturday next between last year’s senior and junior teams, but any new- player will also get a game.

The secretary was instructed to write to Eungiwahia and Fcilding Old Boys Clubs to endeavour to arrange a fixture before the opening of the competitions, PLUNKET SOCIETY The annual meeting of the Apiti subbranch of the Plunkct Society was held in the Technical School on Thursday afternoon, Mrs. W. Viles presiding. The report and balance-sheet showed a most satisfactory state of affairs, there being a balance of a little over £2 after meeting all obligations for the year. The nurse (Miss E. Armstrong) reported 19 new cases for the year and well over 100 visits paid. A letter from the president of the Fcilding branch expressed appreciation of the prompt response for the district’s share in the running expenses of the nurse’s ear, and also for the speedy disposal of the 50 Plunkct recipe books. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs. W. McKay; vice-presidents, Mesdames W. Viles J. Malone; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. E, Payton; committee, Mesdames C. Stanley, A. Prujenn, A, B. Thomas, H. Jensen and J, Cantwell; trustees, Mesdames McKay, Viles and Payton. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring president (Mrs. W. Viles) and the acting-secretary (Mrs. IV. Duncan). At the conclusion of business members enjoyed afternoon tea. Members and intending members arc reminded that subscriptions are now due for the coming year. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Members arc reminded that the usual monthly meeting takes place to-mor-row at 1.30 p.m., and besides the usual business, the annual election of officers will take place. For thus purpose Mrs. McOorkindalc, of Fcilding, and Miss Grant, of Palmerston North, have kindly consented to act as tellers. A feature of the afternoon will be a short address by Miss F. Smith, who is at present on furlough from India. Members are reminded of the sugar bag competition. Members and intending members of the Apiti K.S.A. arc urged to attend the annual meeting, to be held in the Technical School at 8 p.m. on Wednesdav.
