He set out on Saturday morning with a handicap oi 1- wnicn ”s reduced to 3 for the Eveu thou Ms ploy « °* ““J* order that when he went out into tow course yesterday, it was with a further reduction to 6. Despite the fact that he conceded his opponent lletchei o shots, Pain romped home 4 and 3. The seven or eight Miramar players, with the exception of Col. Hughes, found themselves eliminated befoie the semi-finals were reached. They tound themselves unused to playing on a fairway that was as closely cropped as a putting green while overhanging bunkers also took their toll. Hornabrook and Christensen played splendid rounds, but the Masterton man took the honours. .Both went out .in 38, but Hornabrook came in in 3/, while his opponent needed 40. Their cards read: — Hornabrook: — Out: 54435553 4 — 38. In: 3 5 3 4 5 4 5 5 3—37. Christensen: — Out: 45344563 4 — 38. In: 5 4 4 5 4 4 5 4 5 —40. C. R. Uphani put up a splendid showing against W. L. Clark (Levin) put up a 36 when going out with Glcndinning, but failed to keep his form to tho end of the game. Col. Cunninghamc, whose tee shot rolled up to the hole of Eden and striking the pin, bounced away a few inches, considers himself lucky as there was a fair crowd at the links. W. B. Reilly and J. P. Hornabrook fought out a splendid semi-final in the championship, the game going to the 19th. green. Both players went out in 37 and back in 39. Their cards read:— Reilly:— Out: 34545543 4 — 37.
