Striking Shearers’ Outrages
ANOTHER TRAIN ATTACKED IN CENTRAL QUEENSLAND POLICE USE BATONS FREELY BRISBANE, Feb. 2. The shearing trouble is serious at Barcaldinc, Central Queensland. When a train with shearers arrived tlicie, strikers attempted to rush the carriages. Stones were thrown and windows were smashed. The police, however, succeeded in keeping the crowd back. The mob then turned its attention to the engine driver, who, to defend himself, squirted them with steam. An u"ly scene followed, in which the driver’s face was cut with a stone, and many received sore heads from the constables’ "batons.
