Speedway racing lias gained a strong hold in the Manawatu district, and for spectacular and thrilling sport there is nothing to equal that which is supplied by the daring motor-cyclists who compete on the cinder track at the Palmerston North Showgrounds. The management. is doing its utmost to give the public the very best that is offering in this new form of sport and cntcitainment, and each week sees some new attractions together with an advance in form by riders who arc rapidly accomplishing the art of broadsiding. The latest programme drawn up by the management and to be presented on Wednesday night provides for talent ■and events which should account for spectacle and thrills in great measure. No rider has made a greater appeal as a spectacular broadsider on New Zealand tracks than Charlie Spinks. Ho was a firm favourite last year, and he is bac.c again, this time with a greater reputation in having beaten "Vic. Huxley before leaving for the Dominion. Vic. Huxley '1 His wonderful deeds on the “dirt track’’ are known the world over, and at the end of the last season in England lie took rank as the woild s greatest- rider. Any man who beats Huxley is to be regarded as a performer out of the ordinary. To do so is a wonderful achievement. Spinks has that distinction, and his ability as a cinder-shifter will be shown on Wednesday night. Another special feature ,of the meeting will be the appearance of three noted riders from Auckland*—Mattson, Bray and Day. It- is to Mattson’s credit that last year he won the New Zealand championship, and he is a better rider this year. E. Whittle will also be in action, as will the fob lowing Wellington riders: Naylor. Hunger (now in line for test honours), Phillips, Pratt, Yiggars, Lucehesi and Usher. Local interest will be stirred by the staging of a special race for the Silver Championship Sash. This will be confmcd to local riders—H. Pi. Tolley, .T. Gower, R. Paton and H. D. Boss." The winner of the Sash must be prepared to defend the right to possession when called upon.
