FROM THE HUB

tar Cogs,

There arc so many ■ lovely ,hings to talk to you about to-day that [ really and truly don’t know where to jegin. First of all I must thank all the logs who sent in contributions to the Christmas fund. Ray, Jack, Joy, Vioet, Alice, Joan, Dorothy, Nira, Marion, Pamela, wero added to the list this veek, and if I have loft anyone out rou must forgive me because it is loliday time. I have to thank Dorothy ind Betty for sweet cards and Bryce md Betty for a dear little calendar. 3ut I am not finished yet —Rae, Jack md Joy, Honey Bee and a mysterious >erson, sent in lovely scrap books, and me morning I found a charming bunch Df flowers on my table from Violet. I am ever so proud of you and you will >e able to do quite a lot towards giving ihe children in hospital a Merry Christmas. It has been suggested that with

the Cogs’ fund, which is £6, something permanent should be bought for the kiddies in hospital, such as a big teddy bear, or a musical chair, among other things. Are we all agreed! Then that is carried unanimously.' Our dear friend the Matron, is not better yet I am sorry to say, but she is improving, which is something to be thankful for, and I am sure you join with, me in wishing her a speedy return to good health.

I ami afraid there was a little misunderstanding about the Christmas story. I wanted you to send in just stories about Christmas, but some of the Cogs sent in essays on Christmas while others wrote about all sorts of other things. After much thinking and planning, Uncle Bob and I decided to give the writer of the best story in each class 2s 6d, and these stories appear on. the p3ge. New there is a holiday feeling in the. air and I know you are all planning wonderful things for the next few weeks. I have seen jolly parties starting off in cars this week with all manner of fancy gadgets for camping tacked on and bulging suit cases—and such happy faces. And why shouldn’t vc all have a holiday!—so the Cogs are to have a holiday as well. Xherc will be no Cog page on December 27 or January 3. Will you remember, good people? But after that I shall expect wonderful news of all your doings, and helpful suggestions for next year. We must start right away to plan for the sick children, mustn’t we? H Time is getting on and this letter .Should havo been out long since, but before 1 close I want to send you my very heartiest wishes for a Merry .Christmas and a Happy New Year. I only wish that old Father Christmas would take me along so that I could see all the wonderful things he is pushing into the stockings. And if you don’t get all the things you want, never mind, there are lots of years before you. With fondest love to you all, THE HUB. SKILLTEST RESULTS. There were only a very few Skilltests sent in again this week, so we are only awarding one prize, and that goes to: — Kathleen Batchelar, Kiwi tea. Rongotea.

Dear Hub,—l was very pleased to see my name and letter in print. I have solved this week's puzzle and I think it is a good one. I will write the names down again on a slip of paper because they are a bit cramped. I was in town on Saturday, but did not venture to see you at all, but I will come and see you some other time, Will that do? I know two more little Cogs out here. I know Sweet Lavender '.-•who, as you know, is a poetess, and Southern Cross 11. is the other Cog. All tho hay-making is in full swing here. Farmers arc busy getting hay and ensilage in to the stacks and silos. We are having very nice weather hero, nice sunny days, but the wind is not the best, is it, Hub? Oh, the school concert is to-night and we hope it will be a success as the children have worked very hard and act their parts well. Well, dear Hub, I must close now as this must reach you in time. Good luck for a Happy Christmas and a bright and prosperous New Tear. With love and lots of wishes from Wanderlust. I am sorry you did not venture in to see me and I hope your courage will not fail you next time. You must remember to tell mo about the concert. Lots of good wishes for Christmas and New Year. Woodvillc. Dear Hub —It is a long time since I wrote but I havo been busy, and last Sweek I', couldn’t manage the Skilltest. Christmas will soon be here now, but we are having a very quiet one as my grandma is very ill. Wc arc having a flower show next week and mother will be one of the stewards for the roses. Only one more week’s school this year find then holidays. Well, I must close >fiS'mother will post this for me. Wishing you a very merry Christmas, Hub, your loving Cog, All Black.
