Prom Our Own Correspondent. Miss E. Knowles, Palmerston North, was a visitor to Shannon during the week-end. Mrs. Stevenson, who has been away at Wanganui, returned home on Friday. Mr. W. Guy; of the-Shannon branch of :tho Bank of New Zealand, is on his annual holidays. • The fortnightly euehro tourney conducted by the ladies of the Croquet Club, was won by Mrs. Bo vis. There; was a good attendance of ladies. Visitors from Paraparaumu, Levin! and Foxton Lodges were present at the fortnightly meeting of the Shannon Druids’ Lodge. . i Fifty-two players took part in the. euehro tourney .held in Laurvig’s hall, upder the auspices of the Shannon! On Tuesday evening the Shannon Dramatic Club will present a variety entertainment in air of the school septic tank fund. The club have put in a lot of hard work in preparing tho entertainment, and a programme is being presented that should appeal to alb As tho object is a most deserving ono, it is hoped tho public will give the club their best support in their effort to assist the community. The following are points gained in tho first series of races for tho Christie racing cycle: N. C. James, 5; D. Chris- 1 tian, 4; T. Hannam, 3; E. H. Barber, 3; E. Anderson 1. Points are awarded on tho following system: Places Ist, 4; 2nd, 3; 3rd, 2; 4th, 1. Fastest time: Ist, 3; 2nd, 2; and 3rd, 1. Tho death occurred on Friday morning in the Palmerston North hospital of the only son of Mr .and Mrs. W. O'. Easton, aged 5 years. The littlo boy urns taken to the hospital some weeks ago with pneumonia and passed away as tho result, of heart trouble. The funeral, which -was a largo one, took place on Sunday afternoon. The deepest sympathy is extended to tho parents and relatives in their bereavement. Bowling Club, There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Shannon Bowling Club. The receipts for the year amounted tc £155 10s Gd, and tho expenditure £3 52 17s 2d, leaving a credit balance at the bank of £2 15s 4d. The assets amount to £3.9 ss, and tho liabilities to £5 6s, leaving a balance of £l3 19s lOd, which is assured. Seventeen new members were elected and three resigned. Tho membership now stands at 46, 42 active, 2 life, 1 country and 1 commercial traveller. Outstanding subscriptions amount to £C ss. During tho year a new mower was purchased which has proved a great asset. Mr. W. Fell, greenkeeper, put iu some very hard and good work. The appearance of a grass grub on tho green is causing a little anxiety, but. tho green committee hope to have a remedy shortly. A start has been made to improve the croquet lawn. The following officers w r ere elected for the ensuing year: —President, Mr. G. Quarric; vice-president, Mr. A. Mason; secretary and treasurer, Mr. 0. P. Gray; auditor, Mr. J. T. Bovis; general committee, Messrs. B. Downes, L. Mark, C. Hook, W. Clayton, A. H. Morgan, W. Budford, J. T. Bovis, F. Whibley; selection committee, Messrs. C. P. Grey, G. Quarric, W. Clayton; green committee, Messrs. A. H. Morgan, F. Whibley, C. Hook; delegate to centre, Mr. G. N. Stephenson; delegate to shield competition, Mr. W. Clayton. It was decided to hold the opening day on a "Wednesday. Mr. Blackwood drew attention to the bad state of repair of tho croquet pavilion. It was decided that it bo a recommendation to the general committee that the matter be dealt with by them at their first meeting. Croquet. On Thursday afternoon the members of tho Croquet Club met at the president's house in Stout street for a serial afternoon. Three competitions were played causing much merriment, the winners proving to be Mcsdames Snelling, Mason and Bovis. After afternoon tea, the president (Mrs. Bovis) took tho opportunity to present tho trophies won during tho year. The winners were: Mr. H. G. Lcng-Ward, championship singles, Butt Cup to be competed for annually; Mrs. H. G. LongWard, Mrs. Cronquesfc’s trophy; Mesdamcs Picard and Blaikic, president’s trophies, handicap doubles. It w T as decided to hold the annual meeting on August 14 in Laurvig’s hall.
