Death of Mrs. S. Inder

Much will bo felt at the news of tlio death, which.occurred on Saturday night, at her residence, Durham street, Levin, of Mrs Inder,. widow of Mr S. Inder (who was a well-known administrative officer in tho Postal Department), and mother of Mrs C. Blenkhorn, Mayoress of Levin. The deceased lady was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Wylcs, of Glasgow, where sho was born in 1857. She arrived in New Zealand by tho sailing ship Matoaka in 1862, and was married at Mangonul in Juno 1880. From there sho went with her husband to Coromandel, where Mr Inder was postmaster during the early and later gold rushes. They left thero in 1903 for Palmerston North, where they remained till 1907; and subsequently they resided at Masterton (1907-12), Christchurch (1912-13), Wellington (1913-15), and Palmerston North (1915-17), Mr Inder holding cxecutivo positions throughout those years, either as postmaster or inspector. Tn 1917 ho retired, and they went to Auckland, which was their home until 1923, when they retired to Levin, in which town they resided for tho remainder of their days. The late Mrs Inder was liked and respected wherever sho was known. In tho strenuous days at Coromandel she was one whose charitable spirit led her to do much good work; this included a great deal of voluntary nursing, and sho rendered notable service during a severo epidenie of typhoid, when tho caro of the sick population of the township practically devolved upon her. The deceased lady was also a valued worker in tho Church of England, wherever she resided.

Besides her only daughter, Mrs Inder leaves three sons —Messrs Norman (Danncvirke), Roy (New Plymouth), and Eric Inder (Auckland); and there arc ten grandchildren. MRS WILLEMINA SINCLAIR. Miany old friends throughout the Dominion will learn with regret of the death of Mrs Willcmina Sinclair, which occurred at her residence, Princess street, Palmerston North last evening. Born in Scotland 84 years ago, tho deceased lady came to New Zealand with her parents about 70 years ago, and must be numbered among the pioneer settlers of the Marlborough district. She spent her earlier years in Picton and Blenheim, heir marriage to the Rev. W. Shir riffs, taking place in the latter town. She and her husband resided ill Waipukurau for a time where the Rev. Mr Shirriffs predeceased her 46 years ago. After residence in Waipukurau and Christchurch, she lived abroad in various parts of the world returning to New Zealand in 1919. In the meantime her marriage to Mr Francis Sinclair had taken place in Sydney and her second husband died in Guernsey, Channel Islands, during the war. On returning to the Dominion tho late Mrs Sinclair lived for a year or two in Auckland and then removed to .Palmerston North where she has resided ever since, living a more or less retired life. For tho past two years she has been practically an invalid and the end was not unexpected. She is survived by three sons, Messrs W. H. Shirriffs, Palmerston North, S. R. Shirriffs, Auckland, and F. S. Shirriffs Takapuna. Auckland. Throughout her varied life Mrs Sinclair has been an ardent church worker and was identified with mission work for the Presbyterian Church, particularly in Christchurch and Bkinhedm.
