POOTBALL CLUB EVENING. Froft Our Own Correspondent. On' Friday tlie Apiti Football Club licld a most successful concert in the Public hall beforo a largo audience. Tho chairman, Mr A. It. AfcNao, apologised for the unavoidable absence of some expected performers who had been detained by other engagements. Tho chief and most appreciated artist was undoubtedly Mrs MeKnight, of Ohingaiti, who excelled in sketches and impersonations. The audience throughout was most appreciative, practically every item receiving an encore. Tho programme was as follows: Pianoforte duet, Mrs W. A, Churchill and Miss M. McKay; songs, Miss Signal (Utawai), Messrs Morris, Evens (Kimbolton), Churchill and MeKnight (Ohingaiti); monologues, Mrs W. A. Churchill; character sketches, Mrs. MeKnight; vocal duet, Mr and Mrs Churchill. The accompaniments were played by Mcsdames Duncan and Churchill and Dr. Barnicoat. After the concert, supper was served, after which dancing continued till a late hour, the music being provided by an electrical gramophone kindly lent by Mr D. Richards. The chairman announced that Mr and Mrs MeKnight would bring a variety company to Apiti this month. Ladies’ Hockey Club. The second match for tho rose bowl between Rangivvahia and Apiti was played on Wednesday last in Apiti. Tho local team fully extended the strong Rangiwahia team, being finally defeated by 4 goals to Mrs Boucher and Miss Bosher divided the honours for Rangiwahia, while Mrs Dick scored Apiti’s two goals. Mr B. Waterson carried tho whistle. After the game, which leaves Rangiwahia in possession of the trophy, the teams were entertained at the residence of Mrs Arthur Prince. Kimbolton v. Apiti Schools. The return basketball and foutbali matches between the two schools were played at Kimbolton on Saturday, when Apiti were again successful in both games, though only by narrow margins. The football match was played first, Apiti winning by 14 to S, R. Prince (3) and D. Pratt scoring tries for the winners, one of which was converted by R. Fowcll, while C. Smith crossed the line twice for Kimbolton, D. Smith converting one. Following on came the basketball match, which proved "a very close contest, Apiti just, succeeding by 5 goals to 4. The teams were very evenly matched, and the result in doubt till the final whistle. Luncheon was provided in their usual hospitable fashion by the Kimbolton ladies, who have been ealled upon many times this season and have always turned up trumps. Social and General. The Plunkot- nurse, Miss Armstrong, will visit Apiti to-day. As the usual, room is at present occupied by one of tho school classes, Mrs P. Murray has kindly offered the use of her home for the occasion. Miss E. Graham, who arrived by the Corinthic from England on Thursday, is at present the guest of Mrs C. Stanley. The monthly meeting of the W.C.T.U. will be held on Thursday next at 2 p.m. Miss M. Paterson has returned to Apiti after an extended holiday through the Auckland district. It is expected that the Apiti Co-oj. Dairy Company wdll re-open shortly, the first, collection of cream to be made towards the end of this week.
