Aerodrome at Gisborne

LOAN OF £SOOO BY JOINT ACTION OF LOCAL BODIES ■ GISBORNE, July 31. An immediate start is to be made on the preparation of the municipal aerodrome at Gisborne, sanction having been received for the raising of a ioan of £SOOO by the joint local bodies for tho acquisition of a property just outside the borough and for the necessary levelling work. The property is to cost £3OOO, and a v similar sum is required for preparing the ground, while provision is also to be made for shifting power lines and erecting necessary buildings. Towards the cost the Gisborne Returned Soldiers’ Association has granted £SOO and the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club £2OO, while the Government subsidy for labour used in the relief of,...unemployment is. expected to amount to £2OOO. Tho plans.provide for a level area of 300 yards square with two L-shapcd runways, each 150 yards in,width. One of these runways will bo 540 yards in length, from the southern end of the square, and the other will run almost due west from tho square and will be 530. yards in length.
