Police Quell Communist Demonstrations in Australia
TROUBLE IN SYDNEY AND ADELAIDE. United Press Association. —By Electri* Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Friday, 9.50 p.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 1. Communists had planned a demon' straiion-fof-the- centre-of the city today commemorating the Red International Day but tho police and detectives gathered 20 into a patrol van at the precise moment when the demonstration was about to commence. It was one of the swiftest and most effective raids on record. ADELAIDE, Aug. 1. There was a serious Communist disturbance in front of the Treasury, building to-day. Tho polico charged with batons but tho Communists fought the police with pieces of wood. A number of Communists were injured and two wero arrested.
