Kiwitea Wanderers’ Football Ball

PROVES HUGE SUCCESS. Among the many jolly country dances held annually in tilio district nono arc more popular than those at Kiwitea where residents havo the happy faculty of knowing just how to give visitors the very best of good times. At-the commencement of this season the Kiwitea and Cheltenham football clubs amalgamated under tho name of Wanderers, ” and by way of celebrating tho fact no ]3ains wero spared to make the above function a most notable one. Tho club’s colours, royal blue and gold, were used in streamers to bedeck the hall and pretty golden shades softened tho three largo lights. Strands of lycopodium togethor with bamboo were charming against the brown walls while a trellis entwined with lycopadium and largo blue and gold chrysanthemums showed up to great advantage upon the stage. Aglow with colour tho supper room radiated warmth and cheer. Brilliant red and white streamers festooned tho ceiling and clusters of bamboo Tound tho walls were connected by graceful trails of lycopodium and scarlet poppies. With skilled fingers Mrs Athol Shannon and Miss Ina Perry had arranged winter berries, poppies and red and gold honeysuckle in red lacquered jars upon tho tables laden with delicious fare prepared hy the ladies’ committee. The appealing strains of Larkin’s orchestra were not to bo denied and old folk as well as young were enticed on to a floor polished as smooth as glass. Extras were supplied by a panatropc kindly lent for tho occasion by Mr W. J. Port, of Cheltenham.

In the face of tho bitter cold a very largo number journeyed from afar to attend tho ball which proved an even greater success than was anticipated. All arrangements were carried out with caro and thought for the comfort and pleasure of patrons by the committee that comprised Messrs T. E. Craine (president). W. G. Clapham, 11. Livingston, E. C. Kilgour, black crepe de chine with shoulder posy of red flowers, oriental embroidered shawl; A. Livingston, fawn frock; F. C. Ross, black satin and lace; A. E. Shannon, flame frock with velvet bodice and skirt of figured ninon with velvet bridge coat to ) tone.
