LOYAL APITI LODGE. From Our Own Correspondent. On Saturday last an important meeting of the Loyal Apiti Lodge (M.U.) was held in the Oddfellows hall, N.G. Bro. Malone presiding. In addition to the large attendance of local members, there were present D.G.M. Bro. Henaghan (Kimbolton), D.D.G.M. Bro. Fowler (Marton) besides other visitors from Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, reilding, Mangaweka and Rangiwahia.

The main business of the evening was the election of officers for the next half year, the following bciDg chosen: G.M., Bro. W. G. Malone; N.G., Bro. E. B. Schmidt; R.S.N.G., P.G. Bro. A. Dick; L.S.N.G., Sister Dick; V.G., Bro. L. Smith; R.3.V.G., Bro. M. Jacobs; L.S.V.G., Bro. B. Kearney; F.S., P.G. Bro. W. McKenzie junr; E.S., Bro. Chas, McKenzie; guardian, Sister Kearney; warden, Bro. W. Hobbs; pianist, Sister Watexson.

It was also decided to accept the Loyal Manawatu Lodge’s challenge for the Salck Cup in a euchre tournament to be commenced at 7.30 p.m. on Saturdaj’, March 22nd. After lodge business was disposed of, members spent the rest of the evening in dancing, the music for which was provided by Bro. A. Feeney, of Feilding. An enjoyablo gathering was brought to a close with a united rendering of Auld Lang Sync.

Athletic Club. A meeting of tho committee to finalise arrangements for the Apiti annual sports to bo held on March 26 was held in the Oddfellows hall at 8 p.m. on Thursday. In tho tug-of-war events, tho committee decided that teams should consist of five members, entry fee 5s per team. The usual procedure in the evening is to have a dance following the picture programme, and this will be adhered to this year, the details being eft in the hands of the secretary, Mr 1. Elliott.

Plunket Garden Party. Owing to the interest of members in the lecture by Commander Byrd to be broadcasted to-day the committee of the Plunket society has decided to alter the venuo of the garden party to the school grounds. Intending visitors, will thus be able to kill two birds with one stone, and while assisting a good cause can also profitably spend half an hour listening-in to Commander Byrd’s observations on his experiences in the far South, which will be received on a wireless set kindly lent by Mr Berryman, of Palmerston North.

Haythorne Cup. In the return match between Kimbolton and Apiti, played at the latter chib’s courts, Kimbolton won by 13 sets to 11 after a very keen contest. Kimbolton was at full strength, while Apiti was without the services of Miss A. Osborne and Mr W. Duncan, the top man. ' :Thc ladies as usual dispensed a delightful morning and afternoon tea, and altogether a most enjoyable day was spent. Ladies’ singles: Mrs Drewitt beat \ Mrs McNae 6 —o, Miss Drewitt beat Mrs Cantwell 6 —l; Mrs Haythorne teat Mrs Buckman B—6;8 —6; Miss Brown teat Mrs Osborne 6—l; Miss Caldor beat Mrs Waterson 6—4; Miss Edncy lost to Miss L. Osborne 4 —6.

Men ’3 doubles: Coggin and Haythorne lost to Churchill and McNae 3 —6; Flannery and Marshall lost to Cummerficld and Waterson 2—6; Bartlett and Walker lost to McNae and .Cantwell G —B. Ladies’ doubles: Mrs and Miss Drewitt beat Mesdames McNae and Cantwell 6—o; Mrs Haythorne and Miss Edncy lost to Mesdames Buckman and Osborne 2—6; Misses Oalder and Brown beat Mrs Waterson and Miss Osborne 7 —5. Mixed doubles: Coggin and Mrs Drewitt beat Churchill and Mrs McNae 7—5; Walker and Miss Drewitt lost to Cummerfleld and Mrs Cantwell 4—6; Bartlett and Miss Brown beat Buckman and Mrs Osborne 6 —4; Mr and Mrs Haythorne beat McNae and Mrs Buckman 6—3; Marshall and Mis 3 Oalder beat Cantwell and Mrs Wateson B—6;8 —6; Flannery and Miss Edney lost to Waterson and Miss Osborne 2 — 6. Total: Kimbolton 13 sets, 120 games; Apiti, 11 seta, 105 games. In connection with local tennis it may prove of interest to readers to hear that a match is mooted between Feilding and the top players, two ladies and two men, from each of the Apiti, Kimbolton and Rangiwahia Olubs ,to take place in the near future.
