SIMPSON (OROUA) MANAWATU SINGLES CHAMPION. The Manawatu Centre singles championship played on the Manawatu greens on Saturday, resulted in a win for Simpson (Oroua) after having played a draw in the final with Pilcher (Northern). Detailed results aro as follow: —

First round: Pilcher (Northern) beat Glover (Dannevirke), 21—14; Wilkinson (Terrace End) beat Howe (Foxton), 27—10; Eckersley (Manawatu) beat Moore (Feilding), 20—13; Morgan (Talcaro) beat Bary (Palmerston North), 19—14. Second Tound: Simpson (Oroua) beat Wilkinson (Terrace End), 22—14; Eckersley (Manawatu) beat Whibley (Shannon), 22—11; Pilcher (Northern) beat Bull (Levin), 17 —13; Horne (Woodville) beat Morgan (Takaro), IS—ll.

Semi-final: Pilcher beat Horne 20—17; Simpson beat Eckorsley 25—11. Pinal: Simpson drew with Pilcher, 16 all and the game had to be replayed. Pilcher had bad luck in not winning, as at the 10th head ho was leading 12—3. The Oroua player then commenced to find his green and took the next four heads for 5 lost the 15th for one but captured the 16th and 17th for 4. Pilcher then only led by one point and by the 19th head, Simpson had evened up tho tally to 14 all. Pilcher took the 20th 2 up and Simpson retaliated with a like score on the last head. A draw in the final has not been experienced on Manawatu Centre greens for many years. The second match went .to Simpson, who thus holds tho championship for tho second year in, succession. The game ended at the 20th head with, the score 17 —12. The Oroua player led all the way, although he was seriously challenged by Pilcher at the ISth head, when the score read 14—12. At the 6th head, Simpson led 11 —1 and he did not score again until the 13th. Pilcher, however, was unable to add more than a single point on each successive head, except the 12th which he took 2 up. Simpson replied on the 13th with a 2 and after that, the heads were taken by each player alternatively. Simpson was the recipient of many congratulations. The final of the Palmerston North Bowling Club's singles championship was played on Friday afternoon, when E. Bary, holder of the title, beat P. O. Skoglund. In tho final of a handicap singles contest for a pair of bowls donated by Mr. IV. Eeed, G. Tremaino beat N. Wandcn. The rinks championship was finalised last week, G. Wilson’s rink beating R. Ramsay’s after a close game.

Karris Stars. The Harris Stars, won by a rink of Northern Club bowlers from Takaro a week ago, were the source of a keenlycontested gamo on Saturday, when a Takaro rink was successful in a challenge. Takaro: W. Ridley, H. R. Green, R. Tanner, R. Littlejohn (s.) 22 beat Northern: Mills, Moxon, Thornley, Fenwick (s.) 18.

Dixon Cup. Saturday afternoon saw tlie Terrace End rink of bowlers which has been so successful in retaining the Dixon Cup this season, beat a strong Palmerston North Club rink and constitute a new record, by holding the trophy against 11 challenges in the season. Terrace End scored on seven of the first 10 heads and led 9—5. At the 14th head, Terrace End was 14—6 and tho next seven heads saw Palmerston secure 0 points to Terrace End's four. Terrace End: 0. M. Christensen, J. W. Smith, J. Jones, H. W. Johnston (,s.) IS beat Palmerston North: A. Wilson, R. Koss, P. Skoglund, L. Brown (s.) 12.

MANAWATU CENTRE’S VISIT TO WELLINGTON. All arrangements for the annual visit of tho Manawatu Centre to Wellington on Wednesday are completed. It is anticipated that 60 players will make the trip and games will be played in the morning at Lyall Bay and Lower Hutt. In tho afternoon, the big test will take place on the Wellington greens. A special carriage will be attached to the down Limited when she reaches Palmerston North for the convenience of bowlers, and this carriage will be available for the return journey. Bowlers are reminded that the tiain leaves at 6.50 a.m. on Wednesday and the fare return is 18s 6d. Tickets can be obtained at the Railway Booking Office in Eangitikei street to-day and to-morrow and at the station on Wednesday morning.
