PAITONU PEAK POINT IN TRENTHAM SHOCKS

Favourites Outed all Day Challenge Stakes to Cylinder, St Leger Annexed by Vali

Results in Detail Per PrcsH Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Wellington Racing Club’s autumn meeting opened in dull but fine weather on Saturday. Tho track was in good order and excellent racing was witnessed by the large attendance. Tho totalisator receipts were £52,295 10s, compared with £53,922 10s for tho corresponding day last year, a deereaso of £1627. Results:— R-IMU HIGH-WEIGHT HANDICAP, of 260 sovs.; 1} miles. 2 GAY CREST: Dr. M. G. Louis-

Guercss 7.1}, 9 Lucrctia 7.4}, 1C Sunkissed 7.9. Won by two lengths each way. Leader was fourth. Time, I.ll}. How They Ran A bad start was effected in the Iligkweiglit, in which Don Quixote and Wenday were left. Goldlikc set a slow pace down the back from Abcrfeldy, Tunbridge, Borsalene and Auctioneer, with the favourite, Mister Gamp, moving up to tho front. However, Gay Crest and Don Quixote overhauled him and made a good raco of it, Gay Crest winning by a length, with Mister Gamp in third place, half a length back. Then came Goldlikc,- Auctioneer and Tunbridge. For the St. Leger, Waterline was a pronounced favourite, with Vali at good odds. Air Laddio set the pace from Waterline, with Jaloux and Vali handy, and Pedestal tailed off. The first half-mile took 52sec.; six furlongs, lmin. 19}sec.; the mile, lmin. 47sec.; and the mile and a-quarter, 2min. 14} sec. Waterline closed on Air Laddie at. the turn, and Jaloux and Vali made their effort at the false rail. Waterline was in front until nearing the post, when Vali came solidly and won by a head. Jaloux was two and. a-half lengths away third, and Air Laddie six lengths away, fourth. Even wagering on the Plunket Nursery saw Autopay a good priced favourite but he was beater, out of a dividend. Hard Words and Charmaino began best, and led on to tho course proper from Green Binnet, Autopay, Appledore, and Awaken. Hard Words held off the opposition, and Charmaino dropping out, Green Linnet ran Hard Words to a length. Autopay was half a length away, third, with Lady Pam and Isa right" up next, and then coming Jayson, Jenny Diver, and Awaken. The Thompson Handicap was a boilover. Red Heckle wound up a better favourite than Eaglet. Royal Saxon was first away, with Juggle dwelling at the barrier. Paitonu and Red Heckle came on the scene at the turn, the former drawing out in the straight-. Tho favourite went in pursuit but failed to reach tho Hawcra horse by a neck, with necks separating Vcrtigern and My Own. Tho winner paid over three parts of a century. Chrysology, Pagauclli and Tcnterdcn .was the order from tho post in the Challenge Stakes and the. favourite was first into tho straight but Cylinder wore him down, won by a head, with Chrysology two lengths back and Cimabuc and Tcnterdcn next. Chrysology -was squeezed in the run home by Paganelli and H. Gray was warned by the judicial committee to be more careful.
