Rugby in Feilding

FEILDINCt and old boys clubs. Rugby fans in Feilding and district are preparing for an early commencement of the 1930 season and the two Feilding clubs have set the ball in motion by calling their annual meetings. That of Old Boys Club, held on Friday night, attracted a large band of enthusiasts, but the Feilding Club meeting, called for Saturday night, was disappointing from the point of view of enthusiasm and it was decided to adjourn till early in April. At Halcombe on Saturday afternoon, a scratch game was played on the local recreation ground.

Old Boys’ Club. Mr. Wm, Bramwell presided over the annual meeting of the Old Boys’ Club, when tho following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr. L. J. Wild; president, Mr. Wm. Bramwell; vice-presidents, Messrs M. A. McLeod, Jas. Penny, G. J. Fitzpatrick; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. F. Kerridge, committee, Messrs J. Dewe, D. Salter, N. Bramwell, L. Whitehead and N, Amadio; club captain, C. Pearse; coaches, senior, Mr. H. Sims, junior, Mr, L. W. Gibbs; delegates to Unipn annual meeting, Messrs N, Bramwell, J. Dewe, G. J. Fitzpatrick, C. Pearse and M. McLeod.

It was decided to nominate senior and junior teams for the Manawatu competitions.

The secretary stated that the club had two friendly games to play:—• against Wanganui Old Boys and Waituna. Dates for these would be arranged. Mr. M. A. McLeod thanked the club for having elected him a vice-president, and would have pleasure in again presenting a football to the club.

A short discussibn took place on the question of playing others than old pupils of the school, this revealing that the feeling was strongly in favour of sticking to the O.P.A. and confining players to old pupils.

The Feilding Club. The annual meeting of the Feilding Club was presided over by Mr. T. Pagan. The annual report, given below was adopted and after the election of delegates to the Manawatu Union, the meeting was adjourned as it w r as considered undesirable to proceed with tho election of officers and other business with such a small attendant of members.

Delegates were appointed as follow: Messrs T. Collins, T. Pagan, A. Miers, V. Lawrence, M. Bowler and C. Hight. In reviewing the operations of the club for tho past year it must bo admitted that, though the club did not win any of the competitions, a most successful year was experienced. In tho seven-aside tournament the senior team was defeated only in the final game. In the club championship the senior team was equal with Kia Toa for second place and in the Sudden Death it was beaten in tho semi-final. The junior team also had a fairly successful season. The third grade team unfortunately did not do so well and at tho end of tho season found great difficulty in fielding a team. The benefits of having the ground at Johnston park was again evident. Throughout tho season the ground was in tip-top condition and spectators were able to enjoy the game in comfort.

It is a matter for regret that tho club last year was unable to pay a return visit to Manakau to play tho Hui Mai Club. It is hoped that the fixture will be played this year. Various players are to be congratulated on gaining places in representative teams.

In conjunction with the Feilding Old Boys Football Club the gymnasium in Stafford street was again leased. This was used extensively by players throughout tho season. A light loss was sustained on the venture, a half share of which was met by the Feilding Old Boys’ Club. Tho social committee held a dance during the season which realised a net profit of £5 15s 6d. The season commenced with a credit balanco of £4 9s 9d. The total receipts amount to £47 10s lOd and the expenditure £46 8s 4d. The club has now a credit balance of £1 2s 6d. The thanks of the club are due to all outgoing officials and supporter of the club for their ready assistance given during the past season.
