Dannevirke A. and P. Association

PINAL NIGHT SCENE OP GREAT GAIETY.

A very large crowd was again in evidence at the Showgrounds for the final evening session of Dannevirke’s majority show. A good programme had been arranged and a general carnival spirit prevailed. A pillow fight caused great hilarity, the winner eventually proving to be L. Udy. The final in the tug-of-war left the Pirates the victors. A very clever display of tight-rope walking was given by Pierre, of Freemen’s circus who performed the foxtrot to music, and other thrilling acts on the wire. Hakas by the Kaitoke Maoris and a fireworks display by members of the Fire Brigade under the direction of Mt G. Scott, superintendent were also of great interest to the c-nlookers. Later dancing on the green was indulged in, the music being supplied by the Dannevirke Municipal Band under Conductor Hardman. Show Receipts. £lO4 8s was the very satisfactory increase in the gate receipts over those of last year, in the returns of the Dannevirke A. and P. show just held. This is very gratifying in view of tho fact that this year the usual charge of Is on cars entering the grounds for tho evening’s entertainments was done away with, all cars being admitted free of charge. Romney Judging Competition. A largo entry was received for the Romney judging competition, which was held for the first time at this year’s show. Mr J. H. Mitchell, judge of the ewe section selected and placed the sheep for the competition, the following being the awards:— Competitors under 18 years of age, who have not previously acted in tho capacity of judge at an agricultural show: N. Ward and D. Swenson, Dannevirke ' High School, equal 1, R. Riddell and C. Polglase, Dannevirke High School, equal 2. For competitors over 18 years of age, who have not previously acted in the capacity of judge at an agricultural show: John Tickner (Waitahora) and A. Romsden (Kumeroa) equal 1, W. Dassler (Te Uru), F. M. Tickner (Waitahora) and A. Bibby (Onga Onga) equal 2.
