West End School Committee

The monthly meeting of: the West End' School Committee was held last evening. Present were Mr C. H: Whitehead (in the chair), Messrs G. Tremaine; A. Beattie, A, Blackbourne, ' 9ealey, T. Downing, and F. C. Hollicr (secretary). The headmaster (Mr F. W. Moore) reported that the attendance for the month .had been very satisfactory, striking an average 353 .from a roll ot 304. -The term examinations were nearing completion and revealed some interesting results of the operations of the new syllabus. The general standard of work was higher than at the corresponding period last year.' Miss Bctemeyer would relinquish her position at the .end of the year, she having received an’appointment in Wellington. Miss'Sanders would also cease duty, her appointment being for one year only and Mr Hickey would proceed to the Training College. The proficiency examination had been conducted that day..lt was proposed to hold Parents’ Bay next Wednesday, when in addition to the usual exhibition, some new types of work would be displayed. The senior girls would conduct an afternoon tea stall to supplement the funds. Mr Moore acknowledged the gift of a cricket bat from Mr A.
