Borough Council anti Baths Fatality. A special mooting of the Woodville Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening, the Mayor (Mr. H. P. Horno) presiding. The meeting was chiefly called to discuss tho recent drowning fatality. The council expressed its deepest sympathy with the relatives of Hubert Dow and Leslie Goldsack, who lost their lives and placed on record its appreciation of the brave conduct of Dew in endeavouring to rescue his companion and that his action be brought under the notice of the Royal Humane Society. It was further decided that the council tender its appreciation to all those who assisted to revive the victims, the services of Mr. Jack Home, also to be brought before the Humane Society. It was decided to call applications for the position of custodian of the baths. The reserves committee was empowered to provide life-saving appliances at the baths. Glee Club. The Glee Club held a very pleasant evening :in the Parish hall on Monday. This was its first concert under the conductorship of Mrs. McCormick. The items were received with much, appreciation and a very amusing competition was; won by Mr. Ruddick. After an enjoyable supper had been handed round, Mr.' Euddick thanked Mrs. McCormick and the members of the Glee Club for the very pleasant time they had given them all. Mtb. McCormick suitably responded. The programme was as 'follows:—Three Glees by tho elubj recitation, Mrs. Cuming; quartette, Mesdamos Schroder, James, Smart and McNeil; recitation, Mrs. Smart; trio,' Mesdames James, McCormick and Bell; whistling item, Mrs. McNeil; duet, Mrs Sinclair and Miss L. Peebles? playette “Cupid in the Kitchen," Mesdames McCormick, James and McNeil. Women’s Institute. On Tuesday afternoon, the Woodville Women’s Institute held its; monthly meeting in the Parish hall. Mr. Ninon, president, welcomed two visitors from the newfly-formed Women’s Institute at Te Eehunga (Mesdames Hansen and Banbury) and also introduced Mr. Edgar Harding.. ; The latter gave a most interesting talk on the places he had.visited on his recent trip to the Old Country. Starting from Auckland, the speaker took his listeners from place to place, giving a brief description of each, At its Conclusion, Mrs. Ni*on proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Harding for his address. A very pleasant afternoon tea was. then dispensed by the hostesses, Mesdames Elder ana Giles. . ANNUAL BUMMER SHOW. The annual horticultural and industrial show of Woodville was held in the Foresters’ hall on Wednesday afternoon. There was a good attendance of visitors and those were well rewarded by the beautitul and extensive display of flowers. Oue stall was devoted to a magnificent array of roses staged by Messrs Mason and Son, of Fedldmg. During the evening Mr. Mason gave a very instructive talk on matters of interest to rose growers.
