Two Years to Complete town Planning Schemes

LOCAL BODIES HAVE TILL 1932 Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. In moving the second reading of tho Town Planning Amendment Bill, Hon. P. A. de la Perrello said the measurs had the endorsement of all local bodies in New Zealand. It was designed to remove anomalies from the original Act without in any way interfering with its effect. The whole object of the Bill was to improve the environment, not only in boroughs themselves, but also in regional districts. Mr. R. McKoen said he regretted that the Bill did not provide power for local bodies to enforce the “betterment clauses.’’ The leader of the Opposition said the Reform Party would give general support to the Minister in putting through the Bill, which, Mr. Coates agreed, was to offect improvements in tho original Act. The Bill was read a second time. During the committee stage of the Bill, Mr. P. Fraser emphasised the point that had been raised earlier by Mr. McKcen. Tho Minister said he could not include such a provision this session, but he would insert an amending clause next year. On his motion an amendment was adopted, extending the period during which planning schemes must be completed from January, 1930, to January, 1932. The Bill was put through committee with no . further amendment, read a third time and passed.
