WOODVILLE
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. From Our Own Correspondent. A very pleasant evening was spent in the Parish hall, Woodville, on Tuesday, when the Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting. Mrs Nixon (president) was in the chair. Tho earlier portion of the evening was devoted to Institute business. Votes of thanks were passed to Messrs Henderson and Sinclair for their generous help on the evening of the recent concert, also to Mrs Halpin and Miss Beattie for making beautiful bouquets for the occasion.
It was decided to hold the next meeting on Saturday, November 30, which would take the form of a childrens’ afternoon, when children’s waxworks and other entertainments would form ,the programme. There would also be stalls for- Christmas gifts. The entertainment was provided by the Woodvillo Glee Singers, and under the conductorship of Mrs J. McCormick glees and quartettes met with merited applause from the audience. Solos by Miss Bailey, rendered in her usual effective style, were also much appreciated. An amusing competition resulted in Miss Vera Stace being adjudged the winner. An appetising supper followed and before the singing of the National Anthem, Mrs Nixon proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs McCormick and the glee singers.
