SCRAMBLE TO COMPLETE WORK OF THE SESSION

End Row in Sight

WIND-UP MAY COME TO-MORROW EVENING SOME OBSTACLES POSSIBLE.

From Our Parliamentary Reporter. WELLINGTON, Last Night,

A wild scramble to finish tho work ot the session, so that members of Parliament may leave Wellington on Friday night, was witnessed in the House of Representatives yesterday, when a furious pace was set. Despite the fact that Tuesday’s sitting lasted till 3 o ’clock on Wednesday morning, members were back at 11 a.m. and sat till 11 o’clock to-night. They scampered through several Bills and a few members who insisted on having their say on some more or less contentious measures found themselves unpopular, impatient cries of “aye aye” being heard from somo wh-o want to see the end come quickly.

Tho House passed the following Bills: Rural Intermediate Credit Amendment, Taupiri Drainage and River District Counties Amendment, Shipping and Seamen Amendment, Products Export Amendment and Cinematograph Films Amendment.

The second reading of tho Destitute Persons Rest Homes Bill was taken and also of tho New Zealand University Amendment Bill which will be finalised to-morrow afternoon.

Tho Supplementary Estimates, Finance Bill and Appropriation Bill are the most substantial obstacles in tho way of an early finish but the Nurses and Midwivcs Registration Amendment, Town Planning Bill and Transport Bill havo also to bo dealt with and some opposition may be encountered in respect to thoso measures. It. is n.ow believed that tho session may end early on Friday evening.
