FUNERAL OF LATE MR C. E. DAL

Testifying to the esteem in which he is held the. funeral of the late Mr. Carl (Chas.) Edward Dahl, vice-consul for Denmark in Palmerston North, was largely attended yestexday, the cortege being one of the longest seen in the district for many years. A service, which overtaxed, the capacity of the building, was held at the Lutheran Church and was conducted by the aged Pastor Christensen, who had been a close friend of the late Mr Dahl for many years. In a very touching address, tho preacher gave many instances of the acts of charity and kindness of tho deceased. On the coffin in the church, were many large wreaths in red and white, the Danish colours, from the consulate-general in Sydney and Wellington and the Palmerston North Danish Lutheran Church, while outside there was a motor car completely filled with beautiful floral tributes. A largo concourse of friends was present at the cemetery, where the service was conducted at the graveside by the Rev. A. Christensen, son of Pastor Christensen while an address was also given by Mr Porde Carlisle, of the Palmerston North Mission. The pallbearers were tho son and son-in-law of deceased, Messrs Charles, Norman, Leslie, Theodore and Oscar Dahl and Mr. J. U. WMtehead. Messages of sympathy were received from a very wide circle of friends, over 100 cables coming to hand from all pants of the world, in addition to numerous letters.

Beautiful wreaths from members of the family included one from Mrs Moeller, of Copenhagen, sister of the deceased and tributes from the following:—Silkeborg Machinery Company, Denmark, Mr Frederic Brinch, Copenhagen; National Dairy Company, Ltd., New Zealand; Palmerston North Mission Messrs Dempsy and Litchfield, staff of Dahl’s Ltd.; Harrison’s Ltd., staff of C. Dahl’s, Ltd., staff of Dairy Farmer, Matron Evans, Otaki Hospital; the Rev. and Mrs M. Christensen and family, the Rev. and Mrs A. Christensen and family, Mr and Mrs L. V. Dahl, Mr and Mrs Mason, Mr H. Andreason, Foxton; Mr and Mrs Schmidt, Whakarongo; Mr and Mrs H. Bergersen, Mr and Mrs C. Petersen and children, Mr and Mrs Allen and family, Mr and Mrs E. V. West, Mr and Mrs Borreson, Mr and Mrs W. G. Ross, Mr and Mrs F. Johansen, Mr and Mrs E. Schultz, Mr and Mrs H. J. Turner and family, Miss Eileen Burnet, Mrs A. C.
