ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. Mr. F. H. Stockwell presided at a meeting of the committee of the Feilding Acclimatisation Society held on Thursday evening. A letter was received from the General Post Office, informing the council that seven deers’ licenses had been sold by the postmaster in this district during the season, the foes amounting to £4. The High Commissioner 1b Publicity Office, London, wrote thanking the society for information. This would be valuable in preparing advertising matter for circulation in Britain. x A public meoting will be held at Apiti next Thursday night Mr. P. R. Chandler, ranger, reported on the presence of opossums in the district, stating there were opossums about Pohangina, but not in sufficient numbers to declare an open season. There were plenty in the Waituna district, but the bush there was sparse and would soon be cleared out, if an open season were declared. It was reported that ono trapper 'had secured 50 skins in the Pohangina district last season, having obtained a permit from the State Forest Office ,and his license in Palmerston. It was decided to get particulars from the trapper and ask tho Wellington Society for a refund. The warrant authorising Mr. Stevens as hon. ranger was received from the Department of Internal Affairs.
