Tageblatt says the nitrate agreement will save German farmers £1,250,000 a year. Britain, Chile and Germany nor? rule the world market in nitrates. German nitrogen producers took the initiative in price reduction, a American producers, owing to tho anti-trus* law, cannot onter into a price agreement. There is speculation whether they will demand retaliation by an increased tariff on nitrates. Tho German Chemical Trust in cooperation with the Standard. Oil Company intends to enter into direct competition with American producers and to erect a synthetic plant at Louisiana.
