From Our Own Correspondent, RIFLE CLUB’S ANNUAL GATHERING,

D. Balmer Wins Champion Cup. The Pohangina Valley Rifle club held | its annual presentation of trophies ceremony and dance in the Raumai hall on Tuesday evening. The inclemency of the weather was no doubt responsible for a smaller attendance than usual. Tile hall and supper room were tastefully decorated in the club's colours, purple and gold. The supper arrangements were a credit to those in charge of this important section of the function, and the dancers found Larkins’ orchestra entirely to their liking. Before presenting the trophies, the president, Mr. J. I). Balmer, expressed tho club’s thanks to those present, especially those who had travelled long distances to attend. The speaker gave a brief review of tho activities of the club during the past year. Tour matches had been held, two with Wanganui, one with Linton and one with the Legion of Frontiersmen. Pohangina Valley club had won two of the matches and had only lost the others by a small margin. As in other years, a team representing the club had journeyed to Patea to compote in the Patea club’s annual fixture. Tho local club had every reason to feel proud of the performance of its representatives at this meeting. lu appreciation of the visit, the secretary of the Patea club had donated a trophy to tho Pohangina Valley club to be competed for by members wbo had taken part in the Patea club’s meeting. The annual ladies’ shoot had been well attended and some very good shooting ensued. The winner was Miss M. Smart, with Mrs Con. Spclman, Mrs. Smart and Miss C. Balmer ticing for second place with only one point less. On a reshoot for second place, the honour fell to Mrs. Spclman. Tho speaker wished to express his appreciation and that of tho club of the work of the handicapper, Mr. J. Spelman. Mr. Spclman was a handicapper of exceptional ability, as was shown by the very close finishes in all the meetings and competitions throughout the year. In closing, the speaker thanked all who had donated the trophies, which were presented were as follow: —Patron’s (Mr. E. Akers) trophy, won by Bifioman T. Leamy, president's (Mr. J. D.
