LADIES’ HOCKEY

GAMES IN THE MUD. Conditions on the Sportsground yesterday afternoon were tho very opposite to those desired for hockey; the ground was very heavy retarding the ball the whole time, while a profusion of flying mud and gentle showers, together with a cold wind, did not help matters. Bunnythcrpe v. Premiera. From the bully-off the Bunnythorpe ladies took charge, and were not to be shaken off until N. Lee had netted. They controlled play up till the spell, following which the blues seemed to rally, often making attempts to even matters, but the visitors’ luck held. Just before tho closo of tho game, the Bunnys, with a field-length passing bout, allowed M. Linklater to send in a truo shot, 2—o. Mr. C. Dixon Tef creed. Girls' High School v. C. & C. On a portion of the Sportsground much more conducive of good play, these two elevens tried conclusions, but tho final whistle sounded with no score registered. During the first spell, C. and C. was on tho offensive, but each time, by speed and good stick play, tho students would halt them. Many a lucky shot saved a bully at the mid-line. In the second half, mainly due to the failing vigour of the greens, School opened play for some quick in and out passing to take place. Messrs. Scott and Mitchell refereed. H.S.O.G. v. Kongotea. High School Old Girls journeyed to Eongotea, and met defeat by 5 goals to 4. Tho inclement weather made play very solid for both sides, the visitors being further handicapped through having only eight players.. For Old Girls, goals were gained by Misses G. MacKenzio (2), J. Simpson and Turner (one each).
