FAMOUS FIDDLER DEAD
GIPSIES’ UNCROWNED KING
Known as tile “Uncrowned King of the Gipsies,” Imreo Magvari, whose death has occurred at Temesvar, Hungary, had the distinction of being fiddler to the Emperor Francis Joseph. He reached the height of his fame in 1910, when he was considered the chief attraction in Buda Pest. Magyari was afterwards commanded to play at Buda Pest Castle whenever Royalty were in residence there. For his services the Emperor invested him with the Golden Service Cross. In later years the spread of jazz in Hungary, especially since the Great War, somewhat over-shadowed Magyari, and he lived in comparative seclusion.
