MUTTON FOR SHEEP
A FAMILY DISPUTE. Included in the business dealt with at the fortnightly sitting of the Feilding Magistrate's Court on Tuesday was a civil action arising out of a family dispute over an arrangement whereby one party agreed to supply the other with mutton, in return for two sheep. Jlr. E. M. Watson, 8.M., was on flic Bench and the parties were F. A. Orr (Mr. M. A. Ongley) who sued John Anderson (Mr. J. E. Baritrop) for (lie sum of £2 10s 8d being the value of 7Gibs, of mutton at Sd per lb. The parties, who were related, live in the Halcombc district, and from the evidence given it was clear that Orr .supplied Anderson with mutton and there was an understanding that in return for this Anderson had agreed to give Orr two hoggets. Anderson received the meat, but On; did not get the sheep, for the reason that Anderson was under the impression that Orr was to call for the sheep. Ifc did not do so and Anderson thereupon sent Orr a cheque for £1 3s 4d being the value of Gtilbs. of mutton received at 5d a lb. Orr disputed the quantity sold and refused the cheque. The Magistrate decided that Orr had supplied the quantity ho alleged and gave judgment for the 76lbs. at 5d a lb. i.e. £1 11s Sd, with costs 12s.
