BERT BROWN MATCHED WITH 808 DELANEY
Fight On July 18
FIXE PIIOFESSIOXAL BOUT IS WiOIiISUD
The Manawatu Boxing association has received word from Mr. Will Jawlcss, that Bob Delaney, the Australian conqueror of Norm. Radford, is willing to meet Bert Brown in Palmerston North on July IS. Naturally, the association has signified its assent and as other preliminary lighting notices have it, the fight has been arranged and will shortly take place. It should bo a well contested argument, for both men scale 0 stone 3105., which is the light-weight’s best fighting weight. The brilliant record of the young Palmerstonian, Bert Brown, was published in the Times quite recently, so little need be said at present of his outstanding qualifications. As far as Delaney is concerned, however, he will be remembered chiefly by his defeat of Norm. Radford, who was the first conqueror of Johnnio Leckie. The Dunedin champion has been defeated only twice and the first man to lower his colours was Radford, who performed that painful and hazardous operation at Invercargill about a year ago. Radford in his turn, however, met his Waterloo at the hands of Delaney and tho fact that he could defeat Leckie’s conqueror, speaks well for the Aussie’s qualities as a tighter. Another recent success of Delaney’s was against Sammy Shack, the Yankee importation, whom he beat about a month ago.
Delaney is expected to arrive in Palmerston North within ten days in order to put the finishing touches to his training, while Brown will arrive here about the end of the month.
