SUN BEGINS JOURNEY BACK TO ANTARCTICA
WINTER HALF OVER. PUPPIES BORN IN WORLD OF SNOW AND DARKNESS. (Special from the Byrd expedition by Russell Owen). Received Tuesday, 5.5 p.m. BAY OF WHALES, Juno 21. Winter is half over and the sun. ha» begun its long journey back to us. There is a consequent lightening of spirit for everyone in camp. Soon in tho north there will be light creeping over the sky and along the horizon, until our white world is again made visible. There have been some additions to our dog families. Tho newly arrived puppies are playful and friendly, growing up in this Antarctic darkness. Tim only home they have known is where there only snow on which to play and where the sun never shines, yet they are as happy and rollicking as if romping in green pastures, or chasing rabbits in a thicket,.
