BRITISH COAL ORDERS FROM THE ANTIPODES

KEENLY COMPETING WITH LOCAL COAL.

LONDON, May 24. The Times city editor, says further orders have been taken for coal from England to Australia at 30s per ton, compared with 2Ss Gd before wliitsuu. The rise reflects the demand, owing to labour difficulties in Australia. There is a quiet trade in the Home market, and although these shipments are abnormal it is thought that good British steam coal could ordinarily be delivered in West Australia below the corresponding price of coal from New .South Wales. Similarly, English coal to Auckland is competing with Westjjort coal and a quantity of Northeast Coast coal will probably be sent to New Zealand shortly.
