INSPECTORS’ COMMENT ON BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL

WIDE CURRICULUM. LACK OF ACCOMMODATION MAKES LARGE CLASSES. Some extracts from tlio report of the Education department inspectors upon their recent visit to the Palmerston North Boys' High School have been made available. fa commenting on the large size o! some of the classes, the report points out that this undesirable situation lum been forced on the principal by the lack of adequate accommodation. The numbers taking the different courses arc:—Professional SS. commercial 118. general Phi, short general L and agricultural I'J. The report remarks that “the choice of courses and subjects offered is a particularly wide one. more so than in most secondary schools. In the teaching organisation, there is a consider able an mint of specialisation in the A tonus. The weaker forms are taught by not more than two or three masters, and this concentration affords more opportunity of gauging and removing the difficulties of individual pupils." “It is pleasing to note the cordial spirit of co-operation existing between the school and other educational institutions in the district. The tone and discipline of the school are very satisfactory indeed; outside activities are adequately provided for and an excellent system of ‘house’ competitions obtains. There are many features which show that the school authorities are endeavouring with success to fulfil the best modern ideals of education."
