; The big dispersal sale of the '“Orange Dale” Jersey herd owned bv l Alessrs \T. J. Hall and Sons, Matatoki. I Thames, attracted one of the largest I attendances of Jersey fanciers which I lias been in evidence at any sale of | this breed yet held in the Dominion. The catalogue, comprising 13-4 lots, including 41 of the past season’s calves ] and a considerable percentage of bulls : was put through with despatch, the | average for tho whole sale being 474 | guineas. The herd itself is a very old one. having been founded by Alt' IV. J. Hall nearly thirty years ago. It. included quite a number of imported Jerseys and many prize-winners. The top price of the day was paid for the Royal Champion cow. Orange Dale .Mice, which was purchased by Air 11. J. Barford. of To I’oi. at 230gns. This splendid cow, whose sire and dam were both bred by Air Hall, was in calf to his imported champion bull. Rower’s Beautiful Prince. The latter bull, new eight years old, realised only 95gns, being purchased by Air W. L. Magna, of Te Kowhai. ami, as there should be some years of breeding ahead of him vet, lie was secured at quite a ntodcrat price for many of the young cattle sired by hint realised higher prices. The junior herd sires sold as follows:-—-Browning Braza, 2 years, to Dr C. G. Aickin, North Auckland, at lOogns.; Orange Dale Enterprise, 4 years, to Air G. Hodgson. North Auckland, at JlOgns.; Orange Dale Duplex, 3 years, to Air AV. E. Busch, Waihi, at. 130gns.; and Orange Dale Xenia’s Prince, - vears to Mr E. Wilson. Hukuninui, at 70gns. The second highest price paid for cows was for Orange Dale Madeline. a voting cow rising five years old bv Orange Dale Draconis, the sire also of the Koval Champion cow. .She was purchased bv Air W. Mcars, Walton, at The same buyer secured Orange Dale Guava by the same sire at aud a third daughter or tins bull ""in Orange Dale Violet, rising six vears old was purchased at loOgns by Mr D O. Alui'vay, Whakatane. Several daughters of Rower’s Beautiful Prince also made substantial prices, Mr E. Nicola securing Orange Dale Bower s Beatitv, a five-year-old cow, for loOgns, and Dr. Aickin, Orange Dale Wireless, a threc-vcar-old lieifer, at lOOgns. Three daughters of one of tho foundation sires in Blondon, all rising 10 vears of age also created keen competition All three were secured by Air A. Thirl well, of Matamata. Orange Dale’s Olga realised SOgns; Orange Dale’s Lily, 103gns; and Orange Dale s Concord the same price. Orange Dales Lily was the outstanding producer of the herd, having produced 7231b5. fatA line of voung cows from Taranaki and not carrying Mr Hall’s wellknown strain, rather pulled down tnc average of the sale as there was little competition for these; Xenia’s Ruby, a cow by Xenia’s Sultan, imported by Air E. Griffiths, realised 70gns, being purchased by Air R. J. Wilson, of Puta ruru Brampton Lady Cowslip, imported by Air W. J. Chynowcth, realised 170gns, going to Air A. Hazelton, Waibou. and the eightcen-months-old heifer Sultana’s Fontaine’s Combine, imported bv the late T. S. Cooper realised loOgns., Mr B. J- Wilson being the purchaser of her also. The top price for rising two-year-old _ heifers bred in tho stud was Bogus, paid for a daughter of Rower’s Beautiful Prince and Orange Dale’s Lily, by Air D. O. Alurrav. Air G. Melville, Awaken, also secured a fine heifer in Orange Dale Silver, by the same sire at 7;>ns., and Air J. A. Court, of Eltcrsli,r paid Gogns. for a third daughter of'the same bull. Good prices were also paid for the rising yearling heifers. Air AI. Crimmins, Waihi, secured the majority of the top-priced ones. He paid SOgns. for a soven-montlis-old lieifer by Rowers Beautiful Prince and out of Orange Dale, Concord. Air D. O. Murray and Air Alelvillo also escured some of the choice lots in this section,, aud 30gus. was paid bv Air R. J. Wilson for a fourI months-old daughter of Orange Dales ! Duplex and Xenia’s Ruby. Despite {tho carliucss of the season, the rising yearling bulls were also keenly eomncted for. The top price was Hogns pai<l for a scvcn-monllis-om son ol Rower's Beautiful Prince and Orange Dale’s Lilv, the purchaser being Air N. Killen. Matangi, who paid also 70gns. .for a bull of similar age by Orange Dale Enterprise and from Orange Da e -Mice. The sale was conducted by Alessrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd., in conjunction with the 1-armors Co-op. Auctioneering Co. Ltd. On the following day, at Beoelilands, To Rapa, Alessrs AY right, Stephenson and Co. Ltd., conducted the annual sale on account of Alessrs Moveland and Sons, Beechlands, and Air Harold Alorcland, Royton. when thev submitted a catalogue of 40 heifers and voung cows. These averaged 4L?gns. The top priec was lOOgns. paid for the tlirec-yoar-old heifer, Booclilauds .Elr-iC M by AH J. W. Humphrey, Gordnntown. This lieifer was sired by Bccchlands Gale, and her grandc.am, Beechlands Queen, at present under tost, is making an outstanding record. Other good two-year-olds were secured by Mr A\. 11. Smith. Dannevirke, in two daughters of Bria T’s General Twylish and Beechlnnds Red Letter Day, for each of which he paid SOgns.
