FILM PRODUCER AS LABOUR CANDIDATE

Miss Betty Balfour, the film actress, hail a great reception when presiding at meetings at Circcnecster and Tewkesbury in support of Mr Fredman, a Labour candidate. Miss Balfour declared that a hundred thousand workers in the film industry would “put their shirts” on Mr Fredman, who was responsible for the comeback in' the British film indusry. Speaking at Bristol, in the potteries district, Mr MacDonald stated: “I’ve seen some land lit for heroes to live in. If I went to visit the heroes in Scotland in the houses Mr Lloyd George promised to provide, I’d have to visit the gaols.” Lady Astor, the first woman to be elected a member of the House of Commons, is having a ding-dong fight at Plymouth. Lord A.stor arrived at one of her meetings to find her surrounded by crowds of workers. She was angry and there were tears in her eyes. Lady Astor’s tongue is sharp. When some women asked why she had not voted to retain the milk supplies for children, she turned to another section of the audience and said: “How would you like to be governed by these things?” At another meeting Lady Astor rushed at a union organiser and tried to knock oil his hat.
