EUGTIRE AND DANCE. From Our Own Correspondent. On Thursday last a very successful euchre party ami dance wa-s held in the local hall in aid of the school funds for improvements 1o the grounds. Despite the very wet and stormy night a large erow-d turned out. Euchre was played until 10 p.m.. and the following were the successful trophy winners: Ladies first prize, Airs. J. F. AlcKelvie and Alisses E. AlcKelvie and Isobel Scott tied, and the cut-off proved Miss Isobel Scott the winner. The ladies’ consolation prize also resulted in a tie between Alisses D. Newport and E. Florence, the former securing the verdict. The men’s fust prize resulted in a straight-out win for Mr. A. D. Webby. The men’s consolatiou provided gome contest, and the following tied: Alessrs. J. Webby, James Florence, Frank Florence, Alaurice Frccklington, Pat Lofts and Alex Stephens, and in the cut-off‘Air James Florence secured a popular win. After supper was partaken of,\the floor was cleared for dancing and was continued to an early hour in the morning. Between dances t.he following competitions were hold, and the following were the respective trophy winners: Monte Carlo, Air and Airs. W. R. S. Armitage; lucky spot, Aliss E. McKclvic and Mr Eric Reeve; cigarette race, first heat, Mr J. Scott 1., Mr C. J. Florence 2.; second heat, Air F. Florence I. Air E. Florence 2; final, Air Frank Florence and. Aliss Nancy Scott. Alaster Jack Wilkinson, of Lytton street school, Feilding, was the lucky winner of tho casket of chocolates, and Air Alaurico Frccklington was suecess-

ful in securing the pen-painted cushion. The committee desire to thank all helpers who assisted in the evening’s entertainment, particularly Airs. John Hill for taking charge of the supper arrangements and -Messrs P. E. Teague and Hugh Alaxwcll. who acted as doorkeepers. First-class music was supplied by Mr J. V. Wallis in his usual finished style and the committee is deeply indebted to him for his sporting attitude in donating his payment to the funds. Hockey. On Saturday last the local ladies met Hinckoa on the home ground in continuation of the cup matches. The local team ran out winners by 6 goals to 2. It would bo unfair to single out any of the local team for special mention as the whole team played right up to their best standard, thus proving that at present they are a force, to be considered and a very solid combination and are now showing the results of keen practising and solid team work in place of individualism. They are to be congratulated on tho game they now play and will go very close to annexing the championship again on their present play this season. Air E. A. Garliek gavo every satisfaction with the whistle. The local men’s club journeyed to Feilding and met Beaconsfield and were defeated to the tune of 4 goals to 1. This proved to be a hard and fast game from start to finish, but tho local club could not catch the lead established by B'oaeonsficld early in the first spell. However, with a slight reorganisation, Carnarvon will probably do better later on and are not at all disheartened by their defeat. The game was ably controlled by Alessrs E. L. C. Aitekison and C. W. Blackbourn and was a credit to them as referees for the way they conducted it. Their exhibition of refereeing was easily t-he best seen for some time, and goes a long way in making the game played as it should be. There was an entire absence of talking and appealing which proves beyond doubt how tho control of the game improves the sport.
