BETTER UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE FARMERS AND COMMERCIAL MEN
APPEAL TO ROTARY.
In the course of an address to the Palmerston North Rotary club yesterday, Sir Alexander Roberts, of Wellington, district Governor, made an appeal to Rotarians to work for greater co-operation between toM-n and country. He felt that Rotarians could do a great deal to break dOM-n the barriers of prejudice existing betM-een the farmers and commercial men and if they could do so, they would bo accomplishing a great service.
He knew of many farmers M-ho would have saved themselves a great deal of money had they taken the advice of commercial men in their operations. Farmers M-ere undoubtedly tho backbone of the community but a farmer v.-as not a commercial man—far from it. “I think that we should do all in our power to foster a better understanding betM-ecn these tM-o great sections of our community. To my mind these two are interdependent and in bringing them closer together a great service would be done to the community,” concluded Sir Alexander.
