BLENHEIM Last Night.

It is reported that a sensational incident, possibly without precedence in die Dominion, occurred in suburban x'eiverton on Saturday afternoon, it ijeing alleged that following upon a dispute with regard to family matters, a young man was knocked out, and while in a state of unconsoiousness, was maimed for life. It is further alleged that, upon completing his purpose, the assailant bandaged his victim and put him to bed in his house, but being unable to stop the flow of blood from the wounds, summoned njedieal attention. The victim was removed to hospital where he is lying at present. As a sequel to the alleged occurrence William Henry Osgood appeared in the Police Court this morning charged (1) that on May 4 at Yelverton he did assault one Archibald Bennie Meek so as to cause actual bodily harm, and (2) that on the same date, with intent to maim, did disfigure the B.aid Archibald Bennie Meek.

Senior Sergeant Clarkson, who represented the police, made no statement in regard to the facts of the case. He applied for a remand for eight days and indicated that a further remand would then be applied for. He also asked that the first charge should be withdrawn and suggested that as the remaining charge was a very serious one the bail should be increased.

The Bench granted the remand and fired bail at £4OO and one surety of a similar amount.
