A most serious lire in the. regional area oh 'Shanghai broke out yesterday at Hang-Chow, SO miles from this city, resulting iD the complete destruction oh more than 500 buildings. The damage is estimated at several million dollars. Thousands are homeless and several of the most important buildings were destroyed, including schools, hospitals, temples and a number of ancient landmarks, including padogas, and a former Maneiiu palace. Thousands of Chinese stampeded, resulting in a number of fatalities, though the total number of killed and burned is uncertain "at present.
