MANAWATU ASSOCIATION FIXES' MATCH FOR JUNE 3.
At a meeting of the executive of the Manawatu Boxing association last evening, there were present Messrs Earle Wimsett (president), 'E. L. Barnes, F. Cousins, E. Scott, H.,M. Essex, V. Goldfinch, G. Watchorn, D. Armstrong. M. O’Brien, A. E. Hamilton, J. Purvis, B. McGrath, R. L. C. Aitchison, J. P. Evans (secretary) and J. Louisson.
A fight for June 3 (King’s Birthday) was arranged between Jim Broadfoot and Roy O’Brien, an Australian, who is now "fighting his way round the world” and has not lost a match in the past 12 mouths. His record is 53 wins out of 70 odd contests, and he should be a good match for the hardhitting Broadfoot. Mr. J. AT. Pearson was elected announcer for the year. Official seconds were chosen as follow: Messrs H. Berriman, Stan Wright, K. Merritt, L. E. Downes and J. Smith. Prices for the Broadfoot O’Brien contest were fixed at ringside 12s Cd, front stalls Bs, back stalls 5s and pit 2s fid. Ladies free to dress circle.
