Imperial Spark has been scratched for the Flying Handicap on the first day and Matu for all engagements. HAWERA GALLOPS. HAWERA, Last Night. Sprinting conditions were good at the course on Saturday, when the outside of the course proper was again avail , able for fast work. The plough was ii good order for pace work. W. Pine's Denier was the first to work, being restricted to threequarter pace work. Ngawhine, which bled on Thursday, was sprinted a couple of furlongs, and seems to have suffered no ill-effects.

Vivo and a Hallowmas mare in J. Fryer’s stable ran half a mile outside in oolsec. The hurdle mare went very freely. She was afterwards given pace work on the plough. ‘

Havering cantered once round on the plough, and then did half a mile outside in 53tsec.

A good gallop was put up by Calamine and Paitonu, the pair goiug six furlongs from the correct posts on the outside. Paitonu began the quicker, and was a length in front at two furlongs in 27scc. Calamine here joined him, and the pair were level at the three furlongs in 39sec. They come together up the straight. Calamine was a length and a half in front at the post in lmin 20sec.

Airway, Annoyer, and Glengariff did pace work on the plough. Bisox, Clover Leaf, and Mendip jumped off at the mile post . The trio kept well together throughout, running the first half-mile in 55Asec. The pace from then on was slow. Bisox finished half a length in front of Clover Leaf, who beat Mendip by the same margin. The time for the mile was lmin 55scc.

Tenacre and Orazone were companions over seven furlongs. Tenacre led throughout the gallop, ranting the first half-mile in 55sec and finishing a couple of lengths in front of Orazone in lmin 374 see.

Bione, Golden Flower, Animated, and Iciogne went together over five furlongs, and provided a good go, with heads between Bione, Golden Flower, and Animated, with Iciogne, who got

away badly, throe lengths back. The time was lmin Ssec. The best half-mile of the morning teas performed by Boundary. The little mare jumped out at the start from Richfield, and ,leading him all the way, beat him by two lengths in 52 3-ssec.

The steeplechasers Maidos and Pikimai were allotted strong pace work on the plough. Coolmint galloped by himself and strode over his six furlongs in good style in lmin 21 l-ssec. Kawhakina, ’Varsity, and Gold Tree, the last-named by Tree Lucerne out of Gay Kathleen, by Gazely from Kathleen Mavogreen ,did useful pace work. Old Euphonium had his first sprint, and in company with the Royal Stag two-year-old, ran three furlongs on the plough, hitting out well. The old fellow pushed his nose in front in 381-sec. Maidos and Pikimai were given a round of the big fences ou Thursday, both horses jumping safely and well.

J. Fryer also put Airtight over a couple of brush fences ,which he cleared in good style. He promises to be useful at this branch of the game, and may be given an opportunity before the coming steeplechase season closes. Flying Binge worked alone, and ran her half-mile in 53sec.

HIGH DISDAIN SOLD

The New Zealand horse, High Disdain, has been sold to Mr. P. Berhard at a high figure. High Disdain has had no success bore since her arrival duo, sportsmen say, to carrying too much weight for a three-vear-old. The hurdler Scud Along, the owner, Molloy and the jockey, Thomas, were to-day disqualified for 12 months for improper practices in a hurdle race at Canterbury Park on Saturday.
