UNUSUAL ACCIDENT IN TERRACE END CEMETERY

WOMAN FALLS UPON IRON SPIKE AT GRAVESIDE.

A most unusual accident, with extremely paififul consequences, bcfel Mrs. C. Pulling of College strebt west, Palmerston North, on Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Pulling had been attending a funeral in the Terrace End cemetery and after the commital, was viewing some of the graves when §he tripped on a kerbing and fell heavily upon an iron spike which formed part of a low railing Tound a grave. The sharp projection struck Mrs. Pulling in the neck, penetrating the flesh and seriously injuring tho windpipe. Tho weight of the fall was so heavy that the windpipe was compressed between the iron and the spinal column.

The accident was not observed, Mrs. Pulling being alone at the time. Sho had strength enough to raiso herself however, and rvas found later wandering in a dazed condition and bleeding from the mouth.

Dr. Wylie was immediately summoned and Mrs. Pulling removed at once to hospital. Although the injury to the neck is serious, the patient is making satisfactory progress.
