ADDITION TO RUGBY STRENGTH IN MANAWATU

MASSEY COLLEGE FUTURE SOURCE OF SUPPLY. From information given to the management committee of the Manawatu Eugby District Council at its meeting last evening, Massey Agricultural College will play a part in district Eugby this season. The college has made a modest beginning by entering two junior fifteens and it is expecteu that as the institution grows it wiV form a valuable source of supply 'tot Manawatu Eugby. ■ Recognising this, the management committee met the college authorities more than half-way last evening, when one or two points in connection with the new dab we brought before members by a delegate from the college. This delegate stated that at the present time there were only ten students at the institution, but about May 20, it was expected that 120 students would be in residence. It was from these students tha. the college expected to obtain a team or teams, but owing to the fact that the plavers would not be arriving unni the middle of May, tho college would bo compelled to forfeit the first, few matches. Ho asked in viow of the circumstances, that the Council shoulu extend its favourable consideration to the college in tho matter of claiming the fine for forfeiture. Also he hoped that the residential qualification could be waived in order that Sthe college teams might play as soon as possible after the arrival of the students instead of being compelled to wait for a fortnight as set out in the by-laws of the Council. The chairman (Mr. J. A. Colquhoun) stated that the Council was very desirous of encouraging the college to enter teams for he felt that it would, in the course of time become an asset to ‘the football of the district. He thought that in cases of bona fide students at the college, the Council could waive the residential qualification. ~ Mr. T. Pagan moved in this direction, tho motion being carried. It was also decided that in the event of forfeits from the college teams no fines be enforced, and that these teams be admitted to the competition on the fourth playing Saturday. It was pointed out to the college delegate that in the event of two team* being entered in the same grado, no interchange of players would be permitted. The delegate then withdrew after thanking the committee for its consideration.
