- .■. IANNUAL MEETING. -Misff Noaio Hardio presided over ths annual' meeting of -the, /.Manawatu Basketball association - last evening at tho Y.W.C.A. club robins, there being a splendid attendance. An apology for absence was read from Miss Colquhoun. The secretary, Miss Molly Matheson, read the annual report, which was as follows: — , In April, 192 g, enthusiasts made a movement to form an association in Palmerston; North, with the. results that 24 teams- had - joined the association. The season opened with a very successful knock-out tournament on Juno 3. After soma very - interesting , games, - Technical A team proved the winner.A representative match was arranged between Southland. - and Manawatu A, thgfformer being victorious. A match was also played between Gilbys (Wellington) and Manawatu B, the local team having a win. A match was played between High School A and Convent Old Girls, The latter won. the match, and thus, held the Robert. Cup for the ensuing year. In conclusion the executive placed on record its sinceie thanks'to Mr Robert, and Mr Graham for presenting valuable trophies to the association. -To the Y.W.C.A. for the use of the rooms for meetings, to the Convent and High School for tho use of grounds, to the referees, to Mr. N. I. Nielsen, who kindly audited the accounts of the association and to all other-people -who had assisted in any way to make the ■first year of the association, the success it had been; Miss'Hardie thought the whole year had been a marked success and that they had made • tremendous • strides, with basketball, inasmuch as 24. teams had been got together, which was something of a - record. She stated-that at a preliminary meeting held on April 3, it was decided that if sufficient teams enrolled,:-, there- should bo an association formed. As a result a general Meeting was held on May 21, 1928. when' delegates from 12 clubs, officially formed 1: att association. - The whole thing had meant a very great deal of work, but it was well worth everything th'oy had done. If" was decided that a team bo sent ‘to’ the tournament at Christchurch, which would take place some time in August and September of the present, year. Mr. A. J. Graham (Mayor) was presenting a trophy for the June 3 match, making a stipulation that outside cluhs he allowed to enter. Tho trophy .will be played for again next year. Entries are to bo sent to the honorary, secretary, box ‘35,.
